Preparing for Full-Time Ministry

The Romulo Family

About Us

We’re the Romulo family–Jefferson, Eunice and our 10-year-old daughter, Loreus–and we will be serving with Grace Missions International (GMI) on a Missionary Service Project in Nara prefecture, beginning in March 2026.

After graduating from The Master’s Seminary (TMS) and a year of internship, we have been living and working in Japan since 2017. It has long been our desire to serve in full-time ministry, and now–eight years later–the Lord has graciously opened a window of opportunity for us.

Training and Preparation

Missionary Service Project timeline: March 2026 – February 2029

Mentored Ministry Experience: Jefferson will be given ministry opportunities at Shirakashi Christ Church, in Nara, under the guidance and supervision of Pastor Shuji Kondo, also a graduate of TMS. This includes mentorship in preaching in Japanese and church planting work.

Language School: Jefferson will be attending a Japanese language school full-time with the aim of passing at least N2 proficiency level of Japanese. Later, with the help of hired tutors, to pass the highest level (N1) – a requirement to fulfill prior to starting a church plant.

Relationship building: We will connect and build relationships with our brothers and sisters in Christ both in Shirakashi Christ Church (Nara) and Hamadera Christ Church (Osaka) – where a few TMS families are.

Ministry Focus (Post-Missionary Service Project)

  • Church Planting: Our family desires to bring expository preaching and Biblical counseling to our present city, Ashikaga – reaching out to both unbelievers and believers.
  • Community Outreach: We will continue to build relationships with people whom the Lord has already placed in our lives, and proactively reach out to others.
  • Training men: Jefferson will provide training for men to be godly leaders in the home and in the church.
  • Counseling: We will provide Biblical counseling to help Christians grow in sanctification.

Prayer Requests

  1. A complete funding before we move to Nara next year.
  2. Our permanent residency application to be approved this year. This helps with our move to another prefecture in Japan.
  3. Jefferson to become fluent in the language –pray for wisdom and diligence.
  4. Our family’s trust in the Lord to not waver and we will remain united throughout this journey.
  5. Our new relationships that await for us in Nara/Osaka.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”

Matthew 5:14–16
