The mission of Children’s Hunger Fund (CHF) is to deliver hope to suffering children by equipping local churches for gospel-centered mercy ministry. To this end, CHF partners with over 1,200 churches—spanning the globe and reaching communities across 33 countries—and in Southern California alone is partnering with more than 100 local churches to serve thousands of families each year.

The primary way CHF and churches minister together is through Project Food Pak, a program through which kid-friendly boxes of non-perishable food are delivered by local congregations directly to the homes of those in need. Each child in the home receives their own Food Pak, which serves as a simple but powerful gift and an expression of God’s compassion for them.

When a Food Pak is delivered by a pastor or volunteer from a local church, it becomes a tool for ministry. Food Paks open doors for churches to engage in a relationship with families in their neighborhoods, bringing opportunities for the gospel to be proclaimed.

The church is the vehicle to reach the lost, and Food Paks provide a platform for this critical ministry and evangelism to take place. Families receive much-needed food, but, more importantly, have an opportunity to receive lasting hope through a relationship with Jesus Christ.

One such family lives just a few miles away in the San Fernando Valley. Oscar and Mayra Zúñiga live in an apartment with their two young sons. Oscar works as a flooring installer, while Mayra stays home to care for their children. Oscar has a chronic illness that makes it difficult for him to work, and without an additional source of income, the Zúñiga family struggles to cover their expenses.

During a time when Oscar was not able to work consistently, his cousin brought them a Food Pak and invited them to church. There, they met Pastor Romeo. After learning more about the family, Pastor Romeo and church volunteers started bringing them Food Paks. These Food Paks helped sustain the family in a difficult season and opened the door for gospel conversations.

The Zúñigas began attending church regularly, and both Oscar and Mayra have dedicated their lives to Christ. Their sons enjoy going to church, and Oscar and Mayra assist with the youth group and serve as a deacon and a deaconess. Thankfully, Oscar is now in better health and has been able to work consistently. Amid his health struggles, Oscar has learned to put his trust in God. The Zúñiga family now finds their lasting hope in Christ.

Over the next few weeks, Grace Church has the opportunity to participate in this unique ministry by filling Food Paks that will be delivered directly to families like the Zúñigas.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Pick up empty Food Paks at distribution points around campus today, April 12, or next Sunday, April 19.
  • Fill them using the enclosed shopping list. Four Food Paks come in a box, so you can fill them all yourself or invite friends and family to help.
  • Return them to the collection points around campus on Sunday, April 26.

By filling a Food Pak, you are helping deliver hope to a suffering child in our community. Thank you for helping us extend mercy—and the hope found in Christ—to families in our community.
