The Grace Church Alzheimer’s-Dementia Ministry began in 2010. Our meetings are from 9:00–11:00 AM on the last Saturday of each month, with an average of 25–30 people participating. Most are caring for a loved one, but some have remained on to support the others after their loved one has passed away. We even have a few folks who come just to help out. Loved ones are welcome, and some do attend. We offer activities and care for these loved ones during a portion of our meeting.
A typical meeting includes a devotional by one of our elders, and everyone has a chance to share prayer requests and receive encouragement and tips from the group. Though sometimes tears are shed, it is not a negative time. Our meetings are designed to be opportunities for mutual spiritual encouragement (rather than practical solutions). Our members share a unique bond in Christ, as we all understand the typical difficulties and, more importantly, the strength and faithfulness of the Lord as we care for our loved ones.

Imagine that your spouse of forty years woke up one day and didn’t know who you were, or that you found yourself caring for a parent who couldn’t perform basic tasks. Many of us are all too familiar with the effects of Alzheimer’s disease...
